Diabetes
Glutathione & Diabetes: Oxidative stress and its associated inflammation plays a significant role in the development of, and the complications associated with diabetes. The body has the ability to make its own antioxidants - Glutathione, Superoxide Dismutase and Catalase - that play a principal role in reducing oxidative stress and decreasing the inflammatory process. A newly published study looks at the long term effect of elevated levels of glucose in the bloodstream associated with Type 1 Diabetes, concluding: "This study indicates that there is association between hyperglycemia, oxidative stress (LPO), antioxidants (GSH (GSH=glutathione), SOD and catalase), inflammatory cytokines, gut motility (OCTT), and small intestinal overgrowth in type 1 diabetes mellitus patients. This association is intensified as duration of disease increases."
